Oh, San Luis Obispo

SLO, oh, you stole our hearts. This trip wasn't just any adventure; it's where Tricia and I (Jenny) named our business, Opposite of East. This was our very first outing as business owners back in 2020.

We landed at Hotel Cerro.

In the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo, our choice for accommodation was the recently opened Hotel Cerro. Opting for this spot was a no-brainer—it was brand new, and being one of the few downtown hotels with a pool was a major plus. Our visit was right in the midst of the pandemic, but despite the challenges, the hotel staff went above and beyond, offering a warm and gracious welcome. Their enthusiasm was contagious as they shared intricate details about the hotel's amenities and pointed us to local hotspots, transforming our stay into an even more memorable experience.

Our Suite was Nothing Short of Breathtaking.

With a sprawling bathroom, complete with a luxe bathtub and a fireplace, it seamlessly connects the living and sleeping spaces. And oh, the outdoor patio, with its private firepit and surrounded by an organic garden, creates a serene urban farm oasis amidst modern architecture.

From Poolside Bliss to City Strolls

The rooftop pool quickly became our happy place, surrounded by shady lounge cabanas — while lounging with our refreshing beverage proved to be the most relaxing way to spend our day.

As the sun set, we wandered downtown SLO. We couldn't help but draw parallels to our hometown of Santa Cruz back in the good old days of the '80s — brick buildings, tree-lined streets, and charming shops that sent us down memory lane.

The Highlights of Hotel Cerro:

  • Pool Terrace: The pool terrace is where you can kick back in lounge chairs or snag a cabana for the ultimate chill spot.

  • The Distillery: right in the lobby, where you can enjoy crafting spirits.

  • Edible Gardens: On their terrace, a sustainable garden with fresh herbs, fruits, and veggies.

  • Fig Veranda: an outdoor lounge offering tantalizing cocktails and rooftop views.

  • SPA Cerro: Immerse yourself in luxury and signature treatments.

  • Brasserie SLO: Locally infused dishes spotlighting Central Coast ingredients, including those from our Edible Gardens. We loved our breakfast here!

Walking the Shores of Morro Bay

We dedicated our second day to the beach in Morro Bay. Where we explored beachside shops, indulged in saltwater taffy, and meandered along the shore, soaking in the warm fall October sun.

While walking the beach of Morro Bay, we discussed the name of our business because we were stuck. We kept staying West Coast Branding, West Branding, and then, Tricia said, “Opposite of East!.” “That's it! Opposite of East, I love it!”

So, as you can see, this wasn't just a trip for us- it was the beginning of Opposite of East and one of our all-time favorites.
